Rene Russo is the daughter of Shirley Balocca, a barmaid who worked in a factory as well as Nino Russo. Her birth date was July 25, 1970 at Burbank California. Her father, a mechanical engineer and sculptor left her family when she was two. The mother of the child raised Rene along with her sister Toni alone. Her father was of Italian heritage as was her mother of Italian and German-English-Irish ancestry. Rene had scoliosis in her high school days and required full-torso support. Jolly Green Giant, her name for a classmate, was because of her size. Although she attended Burroughs High School alongside Ron Howard (a classmate), even with her brace removed she felt as an individual ranger. Rene found herself unable to keep up with her studies and the social activities at school. Rene was dismissed from school at conclusion of the 10th grade. To save money the young woman took a string of part time jobs for up to 18 months. A lot of them were for free. In a movie theatre, she was given free tickets to movies. Restaurants where she received free meals. There were times when she had more than one job at a time. The last job she worked for solely for earning money was working full time at an eyeglasses factory inspecting contact lenses.
